DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390 Data Sharing

Preparing for DB2 data sharing is complex. As DB2 data sharing is iintroduced in your environment, you must review many of the procedures you currently have for managing and using DB2. The many operational, recovery, performance and implementation issues that data sharing introduces may force you to change the way you currently manage DB2.

This 2.5 day course is intended for:

System Administrators, Data Base Administrators and Lead Application Designers. It introduces the attendee to the components and features of DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390 Data Sharing as well as how to plan for and implement a Data Sharing Group. The major issues of naming conventions, data migration, performance, locking,  communications and coupling facility requirements are included.

Topics Covered:

  • z/OS and OS/390 Sysplex Environment
  • DB2 Data Sharing Coupling Facility Requirements
  • Planning for and Implementing a DB2 Data Sharing Group
  • Connectivity in a Distributed Environment
  • Operations Considerations
  • Performance Considerations
  • Recovery Considerations

Objectives:

After completion the attendee should be able to:

  • Describe an z/OS and OS/390 Parallel Sysplex Environment
  • Identify DB2 for z/OS and OS/390 Data Sharing Components
  • Understand how DB2 Data Sharing utilizes
  • Coupling Facility structures in an z/OS and OS/390 Sysplex Environment
  • Plan for and implement DB2 Data Sharing
  • Understand the key performance issues for DB2 Data Sharing
  • Understand the key operational and recovery issues for DB2 Data Sharing

Duration: 2.5 days

Delivery: Class lecture

Audience:

Systems and DB2 professionals responsible for the implementation or continued management and usage of DB2 data sharing.

Prerequisites:

Working knowledge of DB2 for z/OS or OS/390 systems and database administration.

NOTE:

  • Limited workshops are available upon special request. Call 866-CBI.4YOU (866.224.4968) or write for more information.
  • This course does not cover data sharing disaster recovery. To gain a working knowledge of advanced recovery attend the DB2 UDB for OS/390 Data Sharing Recovery course.
