Using DB2 Utilities to Load and Unload Tables:
for the Application Developer

This 1 day hands-on workshop trains:

the DB2 for z/OS and OS/390 application developer how to use DB2 utilities to perform table unloads and reloads. The attendee will learn how to use the LOAD utility to populate DB2 tables, to use the REORG UNLOAD EXTERNAL to unload the contents of tables in a format that can be used by the LOAD utility, to use the REORG DISCARD to perform purge processing and to use the DSNTIAUL sample application to unload data from tables when REORG cannot accomplish the unload requirement. DB2's utilities are often overlooked in the application design process, even though they normally perform better than application code.

Topics Covered:

  • DB2 Utilities Overview
  • Using LOAD to Populate Tables
  • Using REORG to Unload Tables and Purge Unwanted Data
  • Using DSNTIAUL

Objectives:

This class is designed to help the programming staff become familiar with tusing DB2 UDB's LOAD and REORG Utility . It introduces the parameters that are used in loading and unloading tables and provides reinforcement to the student with hands-on labs.

Duration: 1 day

Delivery: Lecture and Introductory hands-on Lab
